Celtic Folk Fusion
Band

Aibreán is a young "Folk-Fusion" band founded in April 2009 by three students of the BA Irish Music and Dance of the Irish World Academy in the University of Limerick (Irl.).

Jean Damei, David Lombardi and Géza Frank all hail from different backgrounds and met during their first year in University. Jean(Guitar & Flute), from Ardèche in France, has a strong "Jazz-Funk" background, which he incorporates perfectly in his intriguing DADGAD accompaniment.
David(Fiddle, Guitar), from Alessandria in Italy, started to play the violin at an early age and went through a solid classical education. He always took a keen interest in Folk Music and particulary in Irish Music, where he is not afraid to use elements from his classical background to form his own style.
Géza (Pipes, Whistles & Flute) from Austria, is an accomplished Highlandpiper with a solid background as competing soloist. Besides his activities as solo piper, competitor and composer, he is also a very promising Whistle player and Uilleann-piper. His fluent and technically intricate whistle playing is combining traditional with Jazz and Dance elements. Together they create a new powerfull sound delivered in energetic stage performances. Aibreán draws its repertoire from all different angles of Folk and World Music, including, besides mainly Irish and Scottish tunes, also their own compositions, Breton, Galician, Quebecquois, and Balkan music.
